Vintage in mint condition
Vintage and in mint condition, this hand-knotted Char Mahal Bakhtiari wool carpet from west-central Iran is built around the Tree of Life format, one of the oldest and most symbolically significant compositions in Persian tribal weaving, where a central branching structure grows vertically through the ivory field and sends stylized botanical forms, birds, and animal figures radiating outward across the entire ground. The ivory field sets this piece apart from most Bakhtiari work, which more commonly uses a red or dark ground, and the pale background gives the full range of navy, maroon, teal, rust, rose, chocolate, and blue motifs a clarity and visibility that reads with real impact across a room. The deep maroon border carries large geometric rosette and floral cartouches in navy, ivory, and teal that frame the pale field firmly and anchor the composition at the edges. Vegetable dyes account for the warmth and clarity of the full color range, and the palette has aged together with the consistency that only comes from natural dyestuffs over time. As a Persian style area rug, it brings heritage-inspired pattern, soft wool texture, durable hand-knotted construction, and timeless design to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, or formal interiors.
Story Behind the Art: Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari rugs originate in the Chahar Mahal region of southwestern Iran and are instantly identified by bold, compartmentalized garden designs. Their fields are often divided into a grid of repeating panels, with each section filled by a different flowering tree, botanical form, or floral spray. The colors are warm, vivid, and richly decorative, commonly featuring deep reds, blues, greens, and ivory, which gives the rug an almost tapestry-like appearance. The wool is thick and lustrous, reflecting the Bakhtiari tradition of using quality materials, while the weave is sturdy, substantial, and durable. These large-hearted handmade rugs bring strong pattern, vibrant color, and traditional Persian character to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and statement interiors.
