Vintage in mint condition
Vintage and in mint condition, this hand-knotted Kashmar wool carpet from northeastern Iran arrives with a plush, full pile and its vegetable dyes completely intact. The deep navy field is filled with an elaborate arrangement of decorative vases, flowering branches, birds, and botanical forms in burnt orange, ivory, blue, brown, and sage, all drawn with the fine detail that comes from a high knot count and a weaver working at the top of their craft. The composition builds outward from a central ivory and blue form at the heart of the piece, with layers of vases and floral imagery surrounding it in a way that feels deliberately arranged, giving the whole field a sense of narrative and intention. The burnt orange border continues the same vocabulary of vases, birds, and flowering plants, so the design feels complete and unified from field to edge rather than treating the border as an afterthought. Vegetable dyes give every color across the piece a warmth and depth that has only improved with age, and the full palette remains vivid and well-saturated throughout. As a Persian style area rug, it brings heritage-inspired pattern, soft wool texture, durable hand-knotted construction, and timeless design to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, or formal interiors.
Story Behind the Art: Kashmar rugs originate in the town of Kashmar in the Khorasan province of northeastern Iran, a region with a long weaving history that expanded significantly during the 20th century to answer commercial demand. These large decorative rugs are known for elaborate floral medallion layouts, usually centered by a prominent medallion surrounded by dense floral sprays, palmettes, and scrolling vines that spread gracefully across the field. Their colors are often rich and traditional, although softer and more muted palettes are also found. The wool pile is full, comfortable, and pleasant underfoot, and the rugs are often produced in larger room sizes. Kashmar rugs are generally considered well made, rooted in classical Persian design, and appealing for interiors that want traditional beauty without the premium cost of more famous weaving centers.
