Woven in Birjand in eastern Iran, a region known for producing wool rugs with unusually fine drawing and dense knotting, this hand-knotted carpet spreads an all-over floral lattice across a warm peach field where scrolling vines, rosettes, and layered botanical forms repeat continuously from edge to edge without a medallion to interrupt the pattern. The repeat is tight and well-drawn, with navy and cobalt blue florals carrying the most decorative presence against the peach ground while red, ivory, gold, and orange accents fill out the detail work across the vines and secondary blooms. What holds the composition together is the consistent rhythm of the lattice, each floral unit connected to the next through a network of curving stems that gives the field noticeable dimension when you stand back from it. The border is a deeper red with its own full floral repeat in blush, ivory, and blue, scaled proportionally so it frames the field without overpowering it. Vegetable dyes account for the warmth and evenness of the color across the whole piece, which is why pieces like this age so well. Vintage and in good condition with even, low pile and no staining or damage, it has been professionally cleaned and restored and is completely ready to use. As a Persian style area rug, it brings heritage-inspired pattern, soft wool texture, durable hand-knotted construction, and timeless design to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, or formal interiors.
Story Behind the Art: Birjand rugs, named for their city of origin in eastern Iran, are appreciated for fine workmanship, careful detailing, and a graceful traditional appearance. These Persian area rugs are commonly woven with a fairly thick, luxurious pile that gives them a soft and substantial feel underfoot. Their designs often feature elegant allover arrangements such as boteh or Herati patterns, presented in harmonious combinations of beige, brown, blue, and red. Many Birjand rugs also reinterpret the classic Herati structure as medallion-and-corner compositions, with the motifs carefully outlined and refined to achieve a balanced, polished look. Blending reliable durability with intricate artistry, Birjand rugs express the rich weaving heritage of their region and remain valued for both function and beauty in sophisticated home décor.
