Vintage in mint condition
Vintage and in mint condition, this hand-knotted Heriz wool runner arrives with its vegetable dyes fully intact and the pile in exceptional shape. Woven in the Heriz tradition of northwestern Iran, the runner spreads an all-over geometric repeat across a deep red field where angular diamond forms, hooked medallion units, and tribal geometric devices in turquoise, blue, rose, sage, and ivory cover the ground from edge to edge in the bold, rectilinear drawing style that sets Heriz work apart from every other Persian regional tradition. A single central diamond medallion in ivory and turquoise anchors the composition at the midpoint of the field, and two partial medallions emerge from the top and bottom edges in a format that extends the composition naturally across the full length of the runner without breaking the rhythm of the surrounding repeat. The charcoal border carries a dense geometric and floral tribal repeat in red, rose, and ivory that holds the edges firmly, with a periwinkle blue inner guard stripe that creates a strong visual separation between the dark border and the red field and adds an unexpected note of color to the perimeter. Vegetable dyes account for the depth and warmth of the red ground, and the turquoise and blue tones have retained their clarity and intensity across the full length of the piece. This handmade runner rug also works as a hallway runner, entryway accent, or narrow living room rug, adding soft texture, durable construction, and timeless design to the space.
Story Behind the Art: Heriz rugs are woven in the mountainous area of northwestern Iran near Tabriz and are celebrated for bold artistry, strong structure, and outstanding durability. Made with robust local wool naturally rich in lanolin, these hand-knotted rugs have a resilient texture that allows them to serve beautifully for generations. Their signature design is the dramatic angular medallion, large, geometric, and commanding, surrounded by stylized leaves and strong motifs that radiate across the field. Deep reds, indigos, ivory, and earthy shades give Heriz rugs a powerful architectural presence. Admired for both practical strength and visual impact, they remain timeless examples of Persian village weaving and work equally well as durable floor coverings or statement pieces in refined interiors.
