Vintage in mint condition
Woven in Qom, the Iranian city that rose to prominence in the twentieth century as a center for some of the finest and most technically accomplished Persian rug production in the country, this vintage hand-knotted wool carpet arrives in mint condition with its vegetable dyes fully intact and no restoration needed. The design works a triple medallion format across a deep red field where the three medallions each carry a different ground color creating a deliberate variation within the sequence that keeps the composition from reading as a simple repeat. The red field itself is not left open but covered in a dense small-scale all-over pattern of geometric floral forms in fuchsia, teal, and blue that gives the ground a rich textural depth and makes the contrast with the medallions all the more striking. Floral detail within each medallion is drawn in green, turquoise, ivory, and red with a precision that reflects Qom's reputation for fine, high knot-count work, and the ivory border wrapping the full perimeter carries a full floral repeat in red, navy, and green that ties the palette of the field and medallions together into a cohesive whole. Vegetable dyes account for the clarity and warmth of every color across the piece, and at this age they have only grown richer. As a Persian style area rug, it brings heritage-inspired pattern, soft wool texture, durable hand-knotted construction, and timeless design to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, or formal interiors.
Story Behind the Art: Ghom rugs, also spelled Qom or Qum, originate in the holy city of Qom in central Iran and are regarded as a peak achievement of Persian weaving artistry, even though the tradition is comparatively recent. Known for extraordinary finesse, these masterpieces are often made from fine silk or luxurious silk-and-wool blends, achieving very high knot densities that allow for precise, jewel-like detail. Inspired by classical Persian motifs yet refined into a distinctive local style, Qum rugs frequently display intricate floral medallions, garden scenes, prayer niches, and elegant arabesques. Many examples are signed by master weavers, emphasizing their value as collectible works of art as well as floor coverings. Admired worldwide for luminosity, delicate texture, and refined detailing, Qum rugs embody Persian craftsmanship, luxury home décor, and modern artistic sophistication.
