Vintage and in mint condition, this hand-knotted Tabriz wool carpet arrives with a plush, full pile and its vegetable dyes completely intact, making it one of the more immediately usable pieces of this quality and scale to come to market. Woven in Tabriz, northwestern Iran's most historically significant weaving city, the carpet centers a large diamond medallion in deep navy on a rich wine red field, the medallion interior drawn with intricate floral and arabesque scrollwork in turquoise, ivory, and rust that radiates outward through several layers of detail before the surrounding field takes over with a dense all-over arrangement of curling vines, blossoms, and botanical forms in turquoise, blush, green, and ivory that covers the red ground from medallion to border. The wide navy border wrapping the full perimeter carries a continuous arabesque and floral repeat in rust, turquoise, and ivory, outlined by narrow geometric guard stripes that give the edges of the piece a clean, well-structured finish characteristic of formal Tabriz production.
